Skin Care Travel Tips

Next week I am off on holiday to South East Asia! Preparing for a long haul flight means paying special attention to my skin care regimen. Whether I’m traveling for business or pleasure, just one trip can cause my skin unnecessary stress such as exposure to extreme UV light from the sun, dry skin from screen-capture-109recycled air, jet lag and germs. Here are some of my tips to help you prepare to care for your skin pre-flight, mid-air, and post-flight.

It’s best to go barefaced and wear no makeup when flying, as it can dehydrate your skin.  If that is not something you are comfortable with, like myself, opt for a tinted moisturizer, which will hydrate and give you lighter coverage. My go-to travel foundation is Glominerals Sheer Tint Base. Mineral makeup made with a blend of antioxidants, sheer tint base provides enough coverage to even out skin tone screen-capture-110while allowing skin to breathe and providing a healthy glow.

Bring along a hydrating spritz or toner, which will help you skin retain moisture. Skin becomes dehydrated from flying, due to dry, recycled air and elevation and it can show instantly. My favourite skin pick-me-up is Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Essence. A 100% natural light moisturizing spray that instantly hydrates the skin without clogging pores. Sodium Hyaluronate acts as a humectant, drawing moisture into the skin improving the fresh look of skin. Witch Hazel helps minimize water loss from the skin, has anti-oxidant properties, is an excellent astringent and improves the appearance of redness and pore size. The light blend of RoseOrange Blossom and Lavender nectars leaves skin glowing and the smell is divine!

Give your skin a good cleansing and replenish lost moisture with a hydrating cream. A professional facial is always a good idea since it dislodges trapped oil and dead skin. However,  if you don’t have time to get a facial,  follow with a vitamin-infused serum on your skin. I recommend ViverSkin C+E Vitamin Serum which contains pharmaceutical grade Vitamin C and Vitamin E to help repair and protect the skin while instantly reviving it for a beautiful glow.

NOTE: Your final destination could cause different reactions in your skin, so keep that in mind when you choose which skin-care products to pack. When traveling to a warm/humid climate, skin may break out or feel very oily. When traveling to a cold climate at a higher elevation, skin can suffer from dehydration.
