My first whiff of Olfactive Studio Ombre Indigo was back in March of this year at Esxence – The Scent of Excellence in Milan, Italy. I met with Olfactive Studio creator Celine Verleure who introduced me to the 6th Olfactive Studio fragrance – Ombre Indigo. The Olfactive Studio is known for marrying perfumery with photography. Ombre Indigo is the first olfactive imagery in the line that contains boldness, deep colours with a focus on shadows. The photographer is Gustavo Pellizon (São Paulo, Brazil) and the perfumer is Mylene Alran of Robertet.
So how does Ombre Indigo smell? Just “like a shadow”, as Celine puts it.
When I look at the accompanying photograph, I immediately think of the contrast between darkness and light. This fragrance is both deep, dark and bright all at the same time. At first there is a smokiness mixed with woods that is quite opaque, yet calming. Beneath the “shadow” of smoke, bold tuberose and rich saffron play with incense and papyrus. There is a hint of vetiver that I could not find when I first smelled this fragrance. So, I’m satisfied now that I can pick up a bit of it because I love vetiver in fragrances so much! All in all, this is very well structured, long lasting scent that ends on a gentle leathery note. Simply beautiful!
