I tend to love any white floral fragrance that passes by my nose, and Opus VIII by Amouage is no exception! This is the a new fragrance in The Library Collection, launched in 2014. At first spritz, a massive surge of flowers takes over my senses. I can smell mostly jasmine and orange flower with a under layer of spices. It’s a very creamy combination in the heart and base notes, with hints of amber and vanilla. Saffron and Ylang-Ylang round out the peppery nature of the orange flower, while ginger, gaiac wood and vetiver increase the intensity of the sharp spiciness. In the final drydown, the balsam and benzoin notes yield a soft, sweet, buttery skin scent with floral remnants that lasts for hours and hours. I find Opus VIII to be more of a feminine fragrance due to the strong floral composition, however, I can see a man wearing Opus VIII for an elegant evening affair. It really is quite a lovely and unique scent!
