Vegan shampoo and Vegan hair care products are growing in popularity among those who are socially conscious and use organic and natural beauty products. While most of us understand what “organic” means, some may be less clear on vegan and paraben free beauty products and cosmetics.
So what exactly is Vegan?
Vegan means the product contains no animal derived ingredients. This includes any ingredient produced by an animal. It’s the difference between vegetarian and vegan products in that, vegetarian products contain no animal ingredients, but they may contain animal produced ingredients, such as honey or beeswax. Vegan products on the other hand contain no honey, beeswax, or any other animal produced ingredients.
What are Parabens?
Parabens such as propylparaben, butylparaben and ethylparaben are synthetic preservatives commonly used in cosmetics and beauty products such as hair care products, moisturizers, makeup and deodorants. Today there seems to be a great demand for paraben-free products with the growing awareness and education of the benefits of natural ingredients on health and the environment.
If you have never used natural hair care products before, you will notice that the ingredient lists is much smaller. These products contain botanical oils and natural butters. That doesn’t mean that they will make your hair oily or weigh it down, in fact natural oils can be good for the health of the scalp, and actually prevent dry or oily scalps and dandruff. When using natural products, keep in mind that they do not have as long a shelf life as conventional products. Be sure to use them within 12 months, as is usually recommended to make sure the product is effective. Look for products with natural oils (olive, coconut, nut and seed, etc.), natural butters (shea, cocoa, etc.), plant based proteins and essential oils (lemon, orange, lavender, etc.).
Rahua is proof that effectiveness and ethics can beautifully coexist in haircare. Rahua products are certified organic, vegan, gluten free paraben-free, silicone free, cruelty free, as well as free from toxins that are commonly found in most professional hair care lines. The key to Rahua’s outstanding performance is its molecular structure. Unlike other botanical oils that simply coat strands, the extraordinarily small Rahua oil molecule deeply penetrates the hair’s cortex – bonding and repairing it – while simultaneously smoothing the hair’s cuticle. Colour treated hair remains shiny and vibrantly true. Irritated scalps calm under Rahua’s soothing care.
Good To Know: Hair, like skin, needs more than just external treatments to be healthy and beautiful. Nutrition is also very important. In addition to vitamins and minerals, protein is essential for shiny, strong hair. So, if you are Vegan or Vegetarian, consult your dermatologist, nutritionist or dietitian about sources of complete protein that fit into your personal dietary goals and limitations.
