Healthy glow, metallic eyes, glowing lips and intensely dark reds are just a few of the Fall 2013 makeup and beauty trends we saw in the Fall Runway shows from Paris, London, Milan and New York.
Unlike last fall’s glamorous, vampy vixen, we are looking forward to embracing a more casual laid-back approach to luxury. You can put aside your lip liners and replace them with Q-tips, set aside your coloured eye shadows for copper hues, invest in a good hair oil for sleek looks, and stock up on your favourite texture sprays and dry shampoos, because messy hair is in! This season, everything’s a bit smudged, tousled and relaxed.
Discover the top five trends of the season and the products you will need to create the looks inspired by the runways of Fall/Winter 2013:
1. Finished Skin
Well groomed and carefully prepped lady-like makeup is key this season, think Hitchcock-style femininity. The youthful dewy skin of spring/summer moves aside to make way for a flawless, velvety finish. To achieve this matte satin skin look without appearing dull and flat, we love Glominerals New Luxe Liquid Foundation because it harness the light-refracting power of diamonds to bend light for a soft, ageless complexion. The Luxe Liquid Foundation will be arriving this fall but we couldn’t wait to tell you about it now! Finish with Glominerals Perfecting Powder on your forehead, nose and chin. This truly translucent skin perfecting powder absorbs excess oil to keep makeup matte all day long.
2. Copper Eye Shadow
Earthy tones made a big splash on the eyes this year and copper creates a gorgeous, rich, textured look. Seen on the catwalks of luxe brands like Tom Ford, Gucci, and Versace, copper is a fresh and glamorous take on gold, and it blends with an autumn palette. It’s also great for highlighting on olive skin tones, so also consider an eye palette that will allow you a bit of diversity like Glominerals Eye Shadow Trio in Copper Sheen.
3. The Lip Stain
Like last year, powerful, dark red lipstick is a strong trend for the coming winter. However, this time, the look is far from perfect and more like throwing on a swipe of lipstick before flying out the door. It’s the effortless blown rose effect. The edges should be soft, which will make your mouth appear bigger. Go dark in the middle and fan out. Use a Q-Tip to blur the line a bit imperfectly. You can do this look matte or glossy. 4. Dark Edgy and Metallic Nails
The undisputed hits of Fall/Winter 2013-2014 runways nails are dark colours, gold, silver, steel, bronze and lead finishes and any 3D embellishments. Dark burgundy lacquers will compliment a sophisticated fall look, while metallic lacquers enhance the edgy underground look for the season.
5. The Low Ponytail
The low ponytail was seen everywhere (Lanvin, Chalayan, Chloé, Mulberry) in many variations. It was grungy at Lanvin, coloured at Alexander Wang, twisted at Ports, and tousled slightly at Rachel Zoe. This means that this trend is achievable for every hair type and any situation! We really like this look in the modern version, when it’s sleek and straight. Blow dry hair straight with a thermal protector (KEVIN.MURPHY DAMAGE.MANAGER is excellent – Available in-store only) and be sure to hydrate the pony with an oil (Rahua Elixer is life-changing!) for a high gloss finish. Finish this look with either a bold brow or a statement lip.
