Esxence – The Scent of Excellence 2014 Recap

screen-capture-585On March 20th, 2014 the 6th edition of Esxence – The Scent of Excellence kicked off in Milan. Fragrance exhibitors and enthusiasts from around the world gathered at la terminnale for four days of fragrance, art, design and thought-provoking workshops and lectures. I had an amazing time with our friend behind Chemist in the Bottle  – Lucas Szczesniak. With his experienced nose and our shared passion for fragrance, we immersed ourselves in sensorial pursuits and exploration to heighten our awareness and appreciation!

After hours and hours of sniffing, testing and learning about my own smell perception, I have compiled a list of the most memorable lines and the perfumes that left a lasting impression on me.

Evody: This concerns a family history tailor-made by a mother/daughter duo. The aim was to create and market innovative, high-quality fragrances. For the creators, well-versed in the luxury market, it was mandatory to select only the best essences for their concentrates. This fragrance line responds to the need for refinement and elegance.

My #FragrantFind in this line is: Pomme d’Ore

Key Notes: Lime, Bergamot, Virginia Cedar

Carner Barcelona: Carner Barcelona is a perfume house founded in 2009 by Sara Carner. Encouraged by her passion for fine perfumery, Sara Carner teamed up with world renowned perfumers to develop a line of distinctive and vanguard perfumes, a collection of bottles full of memories and emotions. “It’s not only about creating scents, but also about evoking memories sharing experiences and transmitting emotions”

My #FragrantFind in this line is: D600

Key Notes: Iris, Vetiver, Vanilla, Cardamom, Virginia Cedar, Pepper, Jasmin, Bergamot, Grapfruit

Parfums Frapin:  Fragrances inspired by Cognac tell the story of a French passion for quality, lifestyle, and tradition. Timelessness of the best raw materials, traditional knowledge and love of the beautiful and good.

My #FragrantFind in this line is: Terre de Sarment

Key Notes: Myrrh, Benzoin, Caraway, Nutmeg, Incense, Cinnamon, Orange Blossom, Neroli, Grapes, Amyris, Grapefruit

Rania J: Rania Jouaneh, perfumer and nose, designs and develops natural perfumes contemporary and refined fragrance. Of her childhood in East and Africa, Rania takes her passion for essences and fragrances. Today, nature remains central to her creations with a contemporary twist and sensuality. Her compositions highlight the noble and rare species, respecting their wealth and olfactory complexities. Her perfumes are original and sophisticated.

My #FragrantFind in this line is: Rose Ishtar

Key Notes: Rose, Tonka Bean, Guaiac Wood, Patchouli

Jardins D’Ecrivains: A French perfume house founded by Anaïs Biguine in 2012. Anaïs draws inspiration from her love to French literature and gardens.

My #FragrantFind in this line is: Orlando

Key Notes: Guaiac Wood, Musk, Cloves, Peru Balsam, Patchouli, Amber, Orange, Ginger.

There were too many lines to visit in just four days, but I think I covered a lot of Esxence ground. This experience has intensified my love for fragrance and I’m excited to see our family of fragrance lines grow at Etiket. What line will we bring in next? It will be difficult to choose just one or two. There are so many incredible perfume lines out there and we are very selective. What I have learned is that all of the creators behind these lines have a story to tell. It’s very personal and whether you are selling or wearing a fragrance, it’s a meaningful experience.

Hope to meet again sooner than expected.

  2. Great finds, Natalie! Thus confirming once again how similar our taste in perfume is (and tapas, as it turns out). Your discoveries all sound delicious. Thanks for sharing them with us 🙂
