Melanoma is the most common form of cancer ….AND it is also the most preventable. We don’t take it seriously enough.

Here are our top tips for keeping skin healthy and preventing skin cancer:

Reapply. Repeat.

If you applied your SPF product early in the morning, chances are that by lunchtime, it has lost it’s effectiveness. We recommend reapplication every two hours to ensure optimal protection. Given all the innovative formulations out there, it’s an easier task than it might seem. One of our personal favourite easy-to-apply products is the Pro-Derm Mineral Loose Powder Light SPF 50. The built in brush makes application easy where ever you are! Dust it on every few hours throughout the day for effective ongoing sun protection.

Aim High.

Always be sure to use sun protection with an SPF of 30 or higher to ensure that you are effectively blocking the sun’s damaging rays. Luckily, today’s formulas offer sheer, yet effective coverage that doesn’t leave that sickly white residue. We love SkinCeuticals Sheer Physical UV Defense under makeup! It’s light formula, also acts as the perfect makeup primer.

Don’t Skimp Out

The reason it’s highly recommended to use a strong SPF (30 or higher) is because of “human error”when applying. Most people simply do not use enough of their chosen product. A good rule of measurement: a shot glass (1oz) is the recommended amount of sun protection product to use on your body. No less than that!

Get Physical

According to experts, physical sun protection products which contain zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are best for optimal protection. Even if you have sensitive skin, a physical sun block is the best option as it will not cause irritation the way that some chemical sunscreens can. Our top pick: Consonant’s The Perfect Sunscreen SPF 30 (100% Natural). This sunscreen is unlike other natural sunscreens as it is a smooth, non-greasy formula that leaves no white residue. It delivers optimal protection using uniquely micronized Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide minerals to block the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays. Ideal for prolonged sun exposure.

Timing is everything!

If you are planning to be out in the sun, be sure to avoid the hours between 10am and 2pm, when the sun’s rays are the strongest. If possible, avoid being in direct sunlight at all cost as this is the best protection for you and your skin.

Harness the power of antioxidants

Antioxidants boost sun protection. A topical Vitamin C serum provides skin with additional defense against all sorts of environmental stresses, the sun’s UVB and UVA rays in particular. Apply every morning under your moisturizer and SPF product. Vitamin C also boasts numerous other skin care benefits such as helping to promoted even skin tone and treating spots that have developed over time. We recommend VivierSkin’s CE Peptides Antioxidant Serum. Formulated with pharmaceutical grade Vitamin C, Vitamin E and a unique peptide combination this serum helps to protect and bring damaged skin back into balance and back to life.

Klonopin deserves attention because it is effective in treating such a nuisance as neurosis, panic attacks, panic (anxiety) disorder. It should be prescribed only by the doctor and you can buy Klonopin online on https://foamcast.org/klonopin-clonazepam/. A competent neurologist, to whom I turned, picked up my treatment regimen for neurosis, which included this drug in a dosage of 1/4 pill in the evening. This is an excellent drug.

Avoid tanning beds like the plague!

Tanning beds are carcinogenic. They cause premature skin aging and, in many cases, skin cancer. Simply put, it is dangerous. If you value your health avoid tanning beds like the plague! If you are looking to achieve a healthy glow, there are safer alternatives. One of our favourite self-tanning products is perfect for use all year-around – Vita Liberata’s Trystals Minerals Self Tanning Bronzing Powder creates a luminous, beautiful sun-kissed colour without the risks associated with sun exposure.

Don’t forget the kids!

This may sound alarming, but we incur the majority of sun damage (about 90%) by the time we reach the age of 18! Ensure that your kids develop good sun-safety habits at an early age. Send sunscreen to school with them and get them in the habit of using sunscreen all year around!

Remember your ABCDE’s of skin cancer prevention!

Check your moles regularly and look for changes of the following:
Asymmetry
Border irregularity
Colour variation (red, white, blue, black, different shades of brown)
Diameter
Evolving

If anything seems odd or irregular, make an appointment with your doctor immediately.

Get Checked Every Year

Once every year, book yourself an appointment to get a full-body mole scan. Melanoma is the most preventable cancer, and when if discovered in the early stages, it’s almost 100% curable.
